Calcite Media.
Calcite is a naturally occurring calcium carbonate media.
Upon contact with Calcite, acidic waters slowly dissolve the calcium carbonate to raise the pH which reduces the potential leaching of copper, lead and other metals found in typical plumbing systems.
Calcite Advantages:
natural
inexpensive
fairly wide range of effectiveness - pH from 6.0 to 6.9
self-limiting, will not overcorrect
certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 60
Calcite Disadvantages:
slow action, neutralization may be incomplete when pH is below 6.0
increases water hardness (calcium, magnesium, & bicarbonate)
Calcite can be blended with Corosex for larger pH corrections (where raw water pH is below 6). Start with a low ratio of Corosex (about 10% Corosex, 90% Calcite) and blend at a higher and higher ratio until the desired pH level is reached. The maximum recommended ratio of Corosex to calcite is 50%. For applications where your pH level is less than 5.0, please contact us for advice.
